MAPLIFA RECEIVES INCI NAME IN SUPPORT OF PERSONAL CARE PRODUCTS

APRIL 2020 – Maplifa® Extract, Acer rubrum, recently received designation with an INCI (International Nomenclature Cosmetic Ingredients) name. Verdure Sciences®  is proud to tout this new achievement in support of its newest ingredient, which is uniquely positioned for the personal care sector.

“It is an exciting opportunity for Verdure Sciences to explore the cosmetic/personal care space as this is a newer initiative for the company. It is not enough just to have a really interesting new product or ingredient, it is equally important, if not more so, to ensure that the solution offers a sustainable, traceable, clean label solution,” said Jestimore Musombi, Quality Assurance Lead at Verdure Sciences. Obtaining the INCI name for Maplifa through the Personal Care Products Council supports consistency through a third-party that many in the industry trust as a leader. Specifically, INCI helps provide a consistent, worldwide reference, based on sound science for cosmetic ingredients, and helps establish a cohesive system for identification and composition of natural personal care ingredients.

Additionally, it is Non-GMO Project Verified. Maplifa® is sustainably harvested using eco-friendly techniques that aim to promote healthy tree populations. The harvesting and collection of the leaves for Maplifa® do not negatively impact or harm the maturing trees.

“I am honored to have had the opportunity to spearhead the project and now announce that Maplifa® has been successfully assigned the INCI name Acer rubrum Leaf Extract by the Personal Care Products Council after careful evaluation.” Musombi went on to explain, “Acquiring an INCI name for cosmetic ingredients is an essential part of the process involved in promoting ingredient identification.”
