Key partnerships & industry associations for education, advocacy, safety, & quality - Groups of likeminded people can do incredible things when working together, and here at Verdure we are honored to be part of numerous highly regarded groups within the industry that support not only our overarching goals and corporate mission, but also help to move the industry forward as a whole. We value these relationships and wanted to take a few moments to shine a light on groups helping spread information and solidifying practices in sustainability, traceability, global responsibility, and quality.
American Botanical Council
The American Botanical Council (ABC) is a group of people “dedicated to helping people live healthier lives through the responsible use of herbs and medicinal plants. ABC is an independent, nonprofit research and education organization dedicated to providing accurate and reliable information for consumers, healthcare practitioners, researchers, educators, the industry and the media,” according to their website. As associate members of the American Botanical Council, we are proud to support their mission and contribute to the vast library of information they offer to the public.
In addition to contributing to ABC as associate members, we are honored to contribute information and expertise to the American Botanical Council (ABC) — American Herbal Pharmacopoeia (AHP) — University of Mississippi’s National Center for Natural Products Research(NCNPR) Botanical Adulterants Prevention Program as a peer reviewer. Specialists within the Verdure team offer feedback, information, and resources to support the spread of knowledge on the subject and offer insights on specific materials and extracts. Our responsibility efforts keep adulteration concerns at the forefront of what we do, the process and quality standards we implement, and how we interact within the industry to help spread awareness and knowledge. These reasons, among others, are why we are so proud to be able to work with an organization who shares these concerns, goals, and initiatives.
Further, the Sustainable Herbs Program (SHP), a program launched under ABC, is a key partner that Verdure collaborates with in promoting their efforts toward the promotion of sustainable solutions and sharing “the stories of the people and plants behind the products on the shelves.” As Inaugural Members of the Sustainable Herbs Program, we are proud to help support this mission. ABC also offers the Adopt-an-Herb Program where Verdure has adopted pomegranate (Punica granatum) for the last three years. This adoption allows ABC to maintain a large database of reliable resources in the industry.
Global Curcumin Association
The Global Curcumin Association (GCA) aims to “increase public awareness about the production, quality, and science of curcumin products, expand manufacturer understanding of the solid science supporting both well-known and newfound benefits, and create transparency about product quality.” This mission of GCA relates closely to our own approach to science and continued understanding of curcumin which makes our partnership with GCA an important connection to our company aspirations. With increased popularity and exposure surrounding curcumin, Verdure has partnered as Founding Members of GCA to collaborate with major industry players to support a unified vision and voice for the category with particular emphasis on the quality and science of curcumin offerings, full traceability, and adulteration awareness and prevention to better protect the category as a whole. For us, it is vital to promote curcumin with one unified voice to ensure the category and support product integrity.
United States Pharmacopeia
The United States Pharmacopeia (USP) is a group focused on quality and safety and works to “implement standards for high quality, safe, and beneficial goods.” Verdure partners with USP in a number of ways, including participation in the USP Donor Recognition Program, supporting USP in the development of standards for botanical identification, and as contributors in the development of industry standard monographs.
In particular, we are especially proud to have worked closely with USP on in collaboration to develop the monograph for pomegranate extract through validated methods, samples, and a network of experts to assist with moving the industry forward with more information and standard definitions.
American Herbal Products Association
As associate members of the American Herbal Products Association (AHPA), our membership supports their primary objective of disseminating accurate information by bringing people with diverse expertise and experience together to broaden the views of botanicals and herbal products. This idea is just one of the ways our own visions aligns with AHPA, which makes them a trusted and beneficial resource. In addition to the work they do through education, AHPA works hard to advocate on behalf of the entire industry to government and regulatory bodies "for effective laws and regulations that promote the responsible commerce of herbal products." Further, AHPA regularly conducts in-person and online educational events featuring industry-leading experts discussing regulatory and technical issues that impact the herbal product industry.
American Herbal Pharmacopeia
American Herbal Pharmacopeia (AHP) "develops quantitive and therapeutic monographs on botanicals." These monographs offer a comprehensive and critically reviewed library of botanical extracts, and serve as a primary reference for academics, health care providers, manufacturers, regulators, and others. With these high quality reference standards, persons in the industry are able to identify and compare their extracts to a representative of the raw botanical held in high esteem. Verdure is honored to collaborate in offering raw materials to AHP and working toward a comprehensive database of not only reference standards, but also establishing a reliable database of monographs. All of these efforts help to promote the overall betterment of the industry and dietary supplements through established quality control standards.
National Animal Supplement Council
As preferred suppliers of the National Animal Supplement Council (NASC), we adhere to qualification standards set by the organization that “help ensure quality confidence throughout the entire supply chain, from start to finish.” Our participation in this network of qualified suppliers helps us work toward our overarching vision of collaborating with an extensive network to bring innovation, safety, and standards to the global marketplace.
There are many hurdles, research initiatives, environmental and regulatory impacts, improved quality assurance techniques and methodology happening all around us in the botanical industry. Key partnerships and association collaborations help us stay connected to share information to help shape the base of knowledge to encourage ethically sourced, safe, and efficacious solutions to the global market. By focusing on important issues like adulteration, sustainability, supply chain ethicality, and much more together through associations and organizations, we spread our knowledge and impact to help contribute to a vibrant and sustainable industry.
These associations and groups Verdure enthusiastically, and strategically, aligns with are just a few of the many working toward improvements industry wide. These partnerships are key to Verdure and our mission of encouraging healthier communities with innovative, clinically backed botanical ingredient solutions.
